Today Robert Bourget with his daughter, Magali Bourget--now co-owner of the Le Petit Cafe--could probably relax and enjoy his life’s achievement behind the “piano” (the stove as we call it in France). But Robert’s life ‘is’ his restaurant as it has always been. Robert’s career started in the early 1960's as an apprentice in the South of France--Avignon, Cannes, Megeve.
After Working and gaining respect as a sous Chef , Saucier and soon to be Chef in many renowned restaurants on the Riviera and in the highly frequented resorts of the French Alps. (Palm Beach Casino in Cannes, Le Mont D’Arbois in Megeve).
In the late 1960's Robert Bourget moves to the East Coast to work as a Chef for establishments such as “La Petite Marmite” or “The Treasure Chest” in New York (just to name a few). In 1978 , probably missing the good weather of the South of France , Robert decides to move to Southern California to work at the: St. Germain - Los Angeles, The Promenade - Los Angeles, and finally from 1986 to 1991 as the Executive Chef of L’Ermitage in Beverly Hills .
Le Petit Cafe was established in 1994 by Robert Bourget and his entrepreneurial, peruvian wife Teresa Bourget. Le Petit Cafe has been featured (with high ratings) in the Zagat and Michelin restaurant guides. Le Petit Cafe's philosophy is to, not only serve delicious homemade french cusine, but also provide a welcoming, familial atmosphere.
Although Robert still overlooks the kitchen, Miguel Ponse is the main person in charge of the kitchen. Prior to working at Le Petit Cafe, Miguel worked at the famous Le Chardonnay alongside world renowned Chef Claude Alviry.
Paralleled to his career as a Chef, Robert Bourget was contracted by the UCLA Extension Program to teach a series of workshops. Joining a team of Master Teachers and extension instructors selected for their own consistent records of excellence.
